City & Guilds

The 6000 series is a City & Guilds practical only based qualification where a learner develops their hand skills in a chosen trade, working through a series of progressive mandatory projects of increasing difficulty as well as one project of the learner’s choice from the optional range.

They are assessed and marked by the tutor, with feedback given on completion of each module. This is a good way to develop an interest and understanding in the trade of the learner’s choice, for new starters with no written assessments involved.

The Foundation Construction Award (FCA). The FCA is a level 1 City & Guilds qualification where the learner receives classroom theory and practical assessments there is also a City & Guilds externally marked exam to complete all the units required for the qualifications.

This would be an ideal course for new starters who wish to learn about both the knowledge and practical aspect of their respective trades.

The Intermediate Construction Award (ICA). This is the progressive route forward form the FCA. A level 2 City & Guilds qualification with both knowledge and practical projects assessed with a Trade Phase Test set under exam conditions, having to be passed to prove competency.

There is also an exam set by City & Guilds along with a Health & Safety test both marked externally to pass, to allow the learner to achieve the full qualification. If you do not fully meet all the required elements the qualification is achievable if you have previous trade experience.
